SUMMARY:Guest Workshop: Madder\, Weld and Woad: The Three Primaries
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be a celebration of three historically signi
 ficant plants\, madder\, weld and woad. The workshop will involve learning
  about the importance of these plants and how they were used in both artwo
 rk creation and the dyeing of fabric for thousands of years. Together thes
 e plants create the primary colour trio\, red\, yellow and blue so we will
  see how a whole colour spectrum can be achieved from these three initial 
 sources.\nDuring the day there will be also be demonstrations of some of t
 he methods of how colour was obtained from these plants and methods of tur
 ning them into dyes\, inks and pigments (including how to make rose madder
  and lake weld) with time to experiment with inks and paints made from the
 m. There will be plenty of examples of the different ways they were used i
 ncluding some samples of fabrics to see as well as looking at the plants t
 hemselves. Participants will go home with some inks made from these plants
 .\n\nThis workshop will be hosted by Edward and Lucy\, founders of Old Mil
 l Arts studio based in Palnackie\, Dumfries and Galloway. Through Old Mill
  Arts\, their aim is to create spaces for inquiry into the connection betw
 een creativity\, spirit and our natural environment. For more information
