Perfumes are the feelings of flowers.” Heinrich Heine.
Lavender, lemon, rosemary, thyme, rose, jasmine, orange and clove are familiar plants and fragrances. Modern day perfumery traces its origins from humble beginnings – a simple burning of resin incense, the strewing of herbs, a splash of floral water or the scent of a pomander ball. Discover the origins of perfumery and the remarkable role of aromatic plants in this immersive one-day workshop.
Enjoy a hands-on, interactive day embracing the theory and creative art of botanical perfumery: Learn about the origins and history of perfume from Cleopatra to Chanel; Understand perfume vocabulary – the art of smelling and training the nose; Perfume structure – top, middle, base notes; Fragrance classifications; Secrets of blending & dilutions; and Safety and storage.
With lots of sampling and discussion, you’ll be guided on basic perfumery composition and blending to create your own alcohol-based natural perfume spray. Includes all materials, samples, equipment, your own finished 25ml spray perfume and detailed notes. Refreshments provided, but please bring your own lunch.
