Throughout history people have used the plants around them to improve feelings of calm and to alleviate anxiety, supporting them throughout life.

Medicinal plants such as chamomile, melissa, lavender, skullcap, valerian, kava kava, ashwagandha, passionflower, and gotu kola have been the subject of comprehensive research, showing the complex mechanisms through which they work lower anxiety and modulate the stress response.

These mechanisms can involve enhancing our calming brain signal, GABA and our mood boosting signal serotonin.

For several of these plants, including chamomile, melissa, lavender, valerian, kava kava, ashwagandha, passionflower, and gotu kola, controlled clinical trials show their clinical safety and efficacy. These trials consistently demonstrate that when administered at a medicinal dose these plants effectively alleviate tension, anxiety, and long-term stress when compared to placebos, and in some cases, even rival or surpass conventional pharmaceutical interventions, with few if any side effects.
