Step into the world of the medieval physic garden, where healing herbs flourish amongst the winding beds of Dilston Physic Garden, fragrant flower waters shimmer in copper stills, and remedies are crafted by hand from the wisdom of plants. Blending immersive storytelling with hands-on herbcraft, this full-day experience invites you to wander amongst Dilston’s medicinal herbs, taste warming herbal infusions inspired by medieval traditions, and uncover the rich history of the apothecary’s art.
Participants will leave with their own handcrafted apothecary treasures after distilling delicate flower hydrosols using a traditional copper still, blend a richly scented green herbal ointment, and craft oxymels and infused remedies inspired by fifteenth-century herbals and physic gardens. Rooted in historical sources and brought vividly to life through your senses, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to experience the atmosphere and enchantment of the medieval herbalist’s world.
Refreshments provided, please bring a packed lunch. You may wish to bring a notebook, and an apron to protect clothing during the activities.
